Call for Contributions: Navigating the Future of Bioethics Through Collaborative Engagement
The Canadian Journal of Bioethics invites submissions for a special issue developed in collaboration with the CBS Bioethics Community Forum - Navigating the Future of Bioethics through Collaborative Engagement (hereafter, the “Forum”). The Forum, held from May 28th-30th, 2025, will create space to gather as a community to engage in scholarship, debate and network, strengthening the bioethics community. This resulting special issue aims to further the critical discussions and themes presented during the Forum. This call for contributions thus presents the chance to share your reflections and further showcase the incredible work happening within the bioethics community.
Themes for Submission:
We welcome contributions that delve into the various presentations, presenters and ideas shared across the Forum with particular focus on the events listed below:
- Careers in Bioethics; Moderated by: Marika Warren (Dalhousie University)
- Film Viewing & Discussion: “Outsider: The Life and Art of Judith Scott”; Panelists: Heidi Janz (University of Alberta), Andria Bianchi (University of Toronto), and Chris Kaposy (Memorial University).
- Workshop: “Writing Bioethics for the Public”; Leaders: Angel Petropanagos (William Osler Health System) and Chris Kaposy (Memorial University)
- Plenary: “How Adaptive Leadership Can Enhance Bioethics: Working Together on the Hardest Ethical Challenges” Speaker: Paula Chidwick, Director Research & Corporate Ethics and Ethicist at William Osler Health System
- Conversations in Canadian Bioethics Event: Ethics and Trans Health; Speakers: Florence Ashley (University of Alberta), Aprill L Otero (du Mouvement Transféministe), Emma Jean (du Mouvement Transféministe)
- Podcast Launch & Recording: Pop! The Bioethics Podcast; Hosts: Jessie Van Leeve (William Osler Health System) and Casey Rojas (Harvard Medical School)
- Closing Plenary Panel: Top Challenges in Bioethics; Speakers: Anita Ho (UBC and UCSF); Udo Schuklenk, (Queen's University); Ryoa Chung (Université de Montréal); Jocelyn Downie (Dalhousie University)
Submission Details:
- Types of Submissions: Conference proceedings, Perspectives & Art, Culture & Creative Work
- Please see Canadian Journal of Bioethics website for submission guidelines for specific author guidelines
- Alternative submission types will be approved by editors
- Submissions are accepted in English or French
- All submissions will be editor-reviewed
- Collaborative works are encouraged but not required
- Author(s) submitting contributions must attend the forum

- Submission Deadline: September 15, 2025 at 11:59 EST

- Publication of special issue: December 2025 or early 2026
